What is Geocaching?

Geocaching can be a fun and affordable activity as they offer both free geocaches to discover as well as premium-only caches.

Geocaching is an adventurous activity that involves finding hidden containers or “geocaches” using clues and GPS coordinates.

The caches vary in sizes, ranging large, small and even so tiny that you need tweezers. They are hidden in a wide variety of locations, from urban areas, to deep in the countryside.

When you go out hunting your geocaches you need a few things with you so we have created this geocaching checklist to make sure you have all the tools you need with you on your hunt.

GPS

This can be a mobile GPS devise or your mobile phone so it can help you locate the cache.

Dont forget extra batteries or a charger pack you dont want to lose power.

App

Make sure you have the app or a downloaded version of cache locations and hints.

Pencil

Pencil is a must so you can sign the cache log.

The log lets you sign that you have discovered the cache as well as updating it online. This can be very small so make sure it sharp.

Many caches have pencils inside to enable you to sign the logbook but these can go missing or be broken so best carry your own.

Tweezers

Yes tweezers. Some of these caches are tiny and require tweezers to get the logbook out.

Trading SWAG

Many cache have little trinkets and fun items to trade and swop.

When you take something, always leave behind something of equal value.

Caching Tools

There are many geocaching tools of the trade which you would have never heard or thought you will never need but you do.

Penlight, Mirror, Magnets, Pocket knife?

Torch

You never know where you might end up and how hard it might be to see.

Personal Items

Water, snacks and Travel First Aid kit for any emergencies and include bug repellant.

Think of suncream and rain coats for weather changes.
